Art Deco meets psychedelia on this stunning pink and green poster by Isolde Baumgart for the original German release of Pink Floyd’s legendary 1972 concert documentary film Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii. One of the chief designers employed by the German arthouse distribution company Neue Filmkunst, Baumgart was known for her bold type and Minimalist-with-a-flourish designs. Directed by Adrien Maben, the concert film captured the post-Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd performing to a deserted Roman amphitheatre amidst the ancient ruins of Pompeii in October 1971, ahead of the release of their sixth studio album Meddle and just before the band would start recording their legendary concept album The Dark Side of the Moon. I felt, at the time, that we'd had enough of concert films, Maben told a Russian Pink Floyd fan site. So the main idea of the film was to do a sort of anti-Woodstock film, where there would be nobody present and the music and silence, and empty amphitheater, would mean as much, if not more, than a million crowd.

Condition

Excellent (A-)

Conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Prior to backing this poster had one vertical and three horizontal machine folds with minor wear and some ink transfer to fold lines, Staple holes to corners and margins, one staplehole extending into artwork, and a few minor nicks to edges. Backing has smoothed and diminished the folds and minor imperfections for display. Original Rialto Film sticker to lower right corner. Image and colours excellent.
