A bewitching full-bleed black and white photograph of a supine Mimsy Farmer confronts us on this scarce english-language poster for the first Japanese release of Barbet Schroeder's 1969 directorial debut More. Set on the island of Ibiza, the hedonistic romantic drama dealt with themes of drug addiction and free love against the chaotic social and political backdrop of the late-sixties counterculture. At the request of Schroeder, music for the film was provided by the psychedelic British rock band Pink Floyd, who released a 1969 soundtrack album of the same name. Although first shown in Japan in April 1970 as part of the Expo '70 world's fair in Osaka, the film was not released theatrically across Japan until the following February. It remains something of a mystery as to why this Japanese B2 poster was issued in English, but sources suggest that the Japanese distributor issued the pin-up style poster at the time of the first release to be sold commercially in theatres showing the film. Regardless, the striking Japanese B2 has become one of the most sought after original posters for this cult classic.

Condition

Excellent (A-)

Conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Backing has smoothed two manual horizontal folds and minor edge wear. Minor surface colour loss to fold lines. Darkening to edges. Very faint brownish splash to "R" in "MORE". Image and colour otherwise excellent.
