Charlie Chaplin takes a punch on this bold and eye-catching poster for the 1944 Swedish re-release of his 1915 silent comedy short 'The Champion'. Released by Essanay Studios, the boxing short starred Chaplin as the challenger who takes on the world champion with the help of his pet bulldog. Chaplin had previously played a boxing referee in his 1914 short 'The Knockout,' and would go on to revisit the pugilist theme in his 1931 masterpiece 'City Lights.' Art by Bjorne.

Condition

Backing has smoothed spots of edge wear where the poster edges were lightly bashed when rolled, and diminished a few small nicks to edges. Some darkening and spots of discolouration to edges. Small crease to one boxing glove. Image and colours otherwise excellent.
