Studio Ghibli's fantastical animation My Neighbour Totoro, first released in Japan over thirty years ago, has become a beloved classic, and the titular Totoro a cultural icon. Set in post-war rural Japan, the enchanting tale follows the adventures of two young sisters as they befriend the mystical woodland spirits at their new country home, while their mother lies ill in hospital. Released in 1988, the film enjoyed a nine month theatrical run, during which it won a number of awards. Two new B2 format posters were issued to celebrate these accolades - the slightly more common "Cat Bus" style, and the beautiful "Flute" style seen here with it's adorable tagline translating as "This strange creature is still in Japan. Maybe." One of the rarest and most desirable posters from the original theatrical release of this acclaimed anime, another example sold for $5000 when it last appeared at auction in April 2022.

Very Good (B+)
Not backed. A soft double central horizontal fold or compression crease and two further soft horizontal folds, due to being lightly tri-folded with a stack of other posters at one time. Tiny bumps to corners. Unobtrusive handling dings and creases scattered throughout. The soft folds should flatten out beautifully when framed. Image and colours excellent.
