A rare uncut printer's proof poster by graphic designer and collage artist Rex Ray for a performance by David Bowie and Nine Inch Nails at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California, on Saturday 21st October 1995 during Bowie's Outside Tour in support of his album Outside, which had only recently been released on 25th September. Although Nine Inch Nails were by then drawing much larger crowds than Bowie, the American industrial rock band opted to open the show, leaving Bowie to headline, as the starman had been a lifelong hero to lead vocalist and principal songwriter Trent Reznor. Nine Inch Nails segued their set with Bowie's to form a continuous show in an attempt to hold the attention of their young fans through Bowie's somewhat obscure headline set, as he had sworn off performing his greatest hits after his last tour. In a 2012 Rolling Stone reader's poll, Nine Inch Nails opening for David Bowie was named one of the top 10 opening acts in rock history. Bowie said of his decision to tour with Nine Inch Nails: I've just made an adventurous album, what can I do now to turn the concerts as adventurous. Looking at it in that way, it seemed logical to confront myself with the NIN audience. I knew it would be hard to captivate them by music they never heard, by an artist whose name was the only familiar thing.

Condition

Excellent (A-)

Unfolded cardstock, not backed. Nicks and creases to corners and edges. A few light handling marks and dings through artwork. Some surface soiling to margins. Four light blue printer's ink smudges to left edge. Image and colours otherwise excellent.
