During the 1950s and 1960s, American artist David Klein created dozens of alluring posters for Howard Hughes' glamorous Trans World Airlines, capturing the excitement and adventure of travel. His iconic designs, with their bright and colorful illustrations of famous landmarks, won many awards and came to define the spirit of the jet age. Without a doubt one of Klein's most iconic and sought after TWA designs, his dazzling New York poster depicted a bright, abstract interpretation of Times Square, with its twinkling lights, traffic and high-rise billboards printed in a kaleidoscopic explosion of electrifying colour, conveying the irresistible energy and magic of the buzzing city. Originally issued in 1956, the first printing featured an illustration of a TWA Constellation, which would be replaced with a silhouette of a TWA jet and jetstream when the airline entered the jet age. Printed circa 1960 with day-glo pink and orange inks, it's impossible to digitally capture the astonishingly rich and vivid colours present on this scarce poster, which survives in superb unrestored condition. An example of this poster resides in the collection of the United States Library of Congress, Washington, D.C.

Condition

Excellent (A)

Unfolded, conservation backed on linen with no restoration whatsoever. Negligible nicks to edges and the most minor bumps to corners. Minor printing imperfections to pink day-glo ink in places. Image and colours excellent.
