Featuring a silhouette of the legendary Asbury Park ferris wheel and coaster, this candy coloured concert poster issued by Thrill Hill Productions promoted a run of ten dates in July and August 2003 for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band at Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, in Springsteen's home state of New Jersey, as part of his 2003 Summer Tour of North American stadiums on the third and final leg of The Rising Tour, following the release of Springsteen's 2002 album The Rising, largely based on his reflections on the 9/11 terrorist attacks. After initial 'barnstorming' arena tours around the world from August 2002 to boost album sales, the third leg kicked off with a successful stadium tour of Europe before returning to the US in July 2003 to kick off a long-awaited tour of multiple-night stadium shows, starting at New Jersey's Giants Stadium - Springsteen's first full appearances in US stadiums since 1985. New Jersey State rose to the historic event by building a huge boardwalk and amusement park in the parking lot of the Meadowlands complex. Springsteen's popularity on the Eastern Seaboard was such that the initial seven New Jersey dates were extended to ten, resulting in over half a million tickets being sold and a gross of $38.8 million for the Giants Stadium run alone, setting a record for the biggest single-city, single-artist gross in North America. E Street drummer Max Weinberg recalled: Playing for a country that was so much in pain from the events of 9/11 made the Rising Tour so much more than a series of rock concerts. People looked to us — actually they looked to the music — to quiet their sorrows. At first it seemed like the responsibility hoisted on us was too much. How could rock musicians meet these expectations? But somehow we did it. Somehow the tour was a great success.
