Printed in stunning stone lithography, this incredibly rare Australian three-sheet poster advertised The Beatles' first full-length feature film A Hard Day's Night, which followed the fab four over an anarchic 36 hours in London at the height of Beatlemania. Director Richard Lester's snappy editing and energetic pacing gave the film a uniquely modern documentary style and led to the development of the music video. Considered one of the most influential musical films ever made, the offbeat 1960s Classic is often voted among the top 100 films of the 20th century.

Provenance

Printed on three sheets, conservation backed on linen. Prior to backing, each sheet had one horizontal and three vertical machine folds as issued to theatres. Backing has smoothed the folds for display. Spots of light wear to fold lines and some small losses at crossfolds. Small restorations to the crossfolds through the 'H' in 'Hard' and in John's hair. Minor nicks and chips to edges and corners, with a few tiny edge tears to margins no larger than half an inch. Two spots of ink handwriting verso which faintly bleed through to recto. Black printer's ink residue in places, predominantly to the right side of the poster, and the odd printer's ink smudge. Somewhat patchy appearance to black ink due to printing inconsistencies. Two tiny brownish stains to right margin. Colours bold and fresh.
