A sumptuous stone lithography daybill for the first Australian release of 1961 classic drama The Hustler, starring Paul Newman as small-time pool shark "Fast Eddie" Felson, determined to make it to the top. Following the design of the US One Sheet poster, the Australian daybill focused on a steamy embrace between Newman and co-star Piper Laurie. The film received both popular and critical acclaim on release, earning nine Academy Award nominations, including Best Film and Best Actor for Newman, though he wouldn't win until he reprised the role 25 years later for Martin Scorsese's The Color of Money.

    Provenance

    Excellent (A-)

Conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Backing has smoothed the two standard horizontal machine folds so that they are virtually invisible. Minor nicks to edges. Blue printer's ink scuff to white ground. Image and colours excellent.
