A promotional banner poster printed by Virgin Records to promote the October 1977 release of the Sex Pistols only studio album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols in UK record stores. Despite the enduring controversy that surrounded the band, Rolling Stone magazine praised the album as just about the most exciting rock and roll record of the 1970s. British artist Jamie Reid has become synonymous with the Sex Pistols and pretty much defined the image of punk in the UK. His cut-and-paste aesthetic, featuring letters seemingly cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note, developed from his interest in radical politics. This black and white banner poster shows Jamie Reid's second design for the Sex Pistols logo. The ripped up, ransom-note style lettering first appeared on a flyer for their gig at the 100 Club, London, on 31st August 1976. An example of this banner poster is held in the permanent collection of the V&A Museum, London.
