A rare original concert poster for a performance by British rock band the Stranglers at the famous Bataclan theatre in Paris on Friday 6 October 1978. Screenprinted in vivid red and black, the simple yet striking design features the band's signature silhouetted rat motif, first seen on the back cover of their 1977 debut album 'Rattus Norvegicus'. By the time of this Bataclan gig in October 1978, the band had already released two successful follow up albums 'No More Heroes' and 'Black and White', with singles such as 'Peaches', 'Something Better Change' and 'No More Heroes' becoming instant punk classics. With a career spanning five decades, the Stranglers are one of the longest-surviving bands to have originated in the UK punk scene.

Condition

Conservation backed on linen in the European style with no restoration whatsoever. Prior to backing this poster had one horizontal and three vertical folds, with a second set of manual folds at a slight diagonal to the original folds, and nicks, creases and tears to corners and edges, predominantly within red margin. Two fine 2in. horizontal tears across folds - one to the left of UAR logo at upper edge of black ground and the other to lower red margin. Backing has smoothed and diminished folds and minor imperfections for display. Spots of surface colour wear to edges only, predominantly at upper right and lower left corners. Some colour variation from red at outer edges to pinkish in the centre.
