An incredibly rare Warner Bros promotional poster for the November 1977 U.S. release of the Sex Pistols only studio album Never Mind The Bollocks, featuring a repeat of Jamie Reid's God Save The Queen motif in the dayglo pink and green colours of the U.S. LP cover, which differed from the yellow and pink of the UK version, both also designed by Reid. Despite the enduring controversy that surrounded the band, Rolling Stone praised the album as just about the most exciting rock & roll record of the Seventies. Following their brief Never Mind The Bans tour of Britain in December 1977, of which half the dates were cancelled, the band embarked on their notorious U.S. tour in January 1978. Plagued with conflict and confrontation, and with Sid Vicious unable to get his fix of heroin, the ill-conceived tour degenerated until Johnny Rotten left the band, walking off stage during the tour's final date at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on 14th January 1978, and later announcing its break up. Photographs exist of numerous copies of this poster taped to the wall of the band's dressing room at the Winterland. By the following February, Sid Vicious had died of a drug overdose following his arrest for the murder of his girlfriend Nancy Spungen. We have only seen a handful of copies of this poster come up for sale.

Condition

Good (B)

Unfolded, backed on linen with no restoration. Tears and losses to corners and edges, a few scuffs and one small tear to central artwork. Image otherwise very good and colours excellent. It is rare to find this poster in any condition - we have left it in it's original punk condition but backed it on linen to improve it's appearance for display and preserve it for years to come.
