UK Promotional Poster
A scarce promotional poster issued by Virgin Records in support of the Sex Pistols third single Pretty Vacant, released in July 1977 from their only studio album Never Mind The Bollocks: Here's The Sex Pistols. British artist Jamie Reid has become synonymous with the Sex Pistols and pretty much defined the image of Punk in the UK. His cut-and-paste aesthetic, featuring letters seemingly cut from newspaper headlines in the style of a ransom note, developed from his interest in radical politics. Reflecting the disenchanted fatalism and cultural boredom that the Sex Pistols had come to represent, the Boredom/Nowhere buses design was first used by Reid in his Suburban Press magazine in 1973, reportedly reappropriated from a 1973 pamphlet by the San Francisco Situationist group Point-Blank. A similar design, with white buses on a black ground, featured on the back cover of the single sleeve.
